how to move Office XP from one computer to another

R

Rick Winford

I have a Gateway desktop PC that came with Office XP installed on it. I am
replacing it with a Dell laptop that does not have any version of Office
installed. I have used PCRelocator to move all the software and files
across, and it did a great job. However, Office XP won't run because the
hardware has changed too much and needs to be re-activated. I called
Microsoft activation and they can't/won't activate it unless I have the
original CD. There is no CD (the software came pre-installed) and there is
no CD image on the Gateway desktop for Office. The old Gateway desktop will
be de-commissioned (re-formated, re-installed, etc.) and so my license for
Office should still be valid.

Any suggestions?

If Office came preinstalled, it is OEM and cannot be transferred to a new
computer. Read the EULA under any Office Program Help->About. It is tied
to the original computer and cannot be installed elsewhere.
