How to NOT publish something

How do you NOT publish a folder. I see where I can go into the folder and
select detail files to NOT publish but I would like to not send the entire
folder to the server. These are web stats that are created by the server
and go into a specific folder. I don't want to overnight with what I have
on disk.
Thanks

If your host supports subwebs convert the folder online and locally in FP to a subweb

I had the same problem, and it created a mess of errors.
Ok fine...don't publish a folder...duh with FP you can only not publish files..so you gotta NOT publish each file...BUT...

If you go to Jimco's website he has a free Selective Publish add-in...it's great!

http://www.jimcoaddins.com/addins.aspx

Close All is good too...actually all the add-ins are good.

HTH.

Normally the Jimco Addin would work, but the problem folder the user has is a Stats folder w/ content being generated by the site
- he would have to run the addin before each publishing event since the content is never the same

Yes the content on the server is always changing (at least every 12 hours).
I guess I could simply delete this folder on my local drive and it should
never come back (unless I grab it off the server).

Then when I do this, fp prompts me to delete on the sever side. I will have
to answer no each time??? I guess this can be taken up as an upgrade to
fp... someday.

I am having the same problem. I converted my stats folder on my local drive to a subweb. When i try to convert the stats folder on the live site to a subweb, i get the message "server error, cannot create folder "_vti_pvt" Meantime, the search feature I have on my site for visitors to search my site searches the stat pages and returns search results including those stat pages. what can I do?

You need to contact your host and ask them to convert the folder to a subweb
or move it outside of your web space.

I asked them if they could do make it a subweb and they said they could not. Is this possible or should I re-word my request? They advised that I make the folder password protected so people could not access the reports. This does not, however, solve the problem of those reports showing up in search results. When the search feature i put on my site is used with a word such as 'plant' ,which a typical visitor may want to search for, the list of results includes many pages titled "Web Report ...etc

any help or advice would be appreciated. thanks

Ask them why not or why can't they move the folder outside of the web root.

If your host refuses to help you with this, you may have to switch host.
