How to number shapes

If I want to number shapes on page 1 with 1.1, 1.2, 1.3... and on page 2
start with 2.1, 2.2, 2.3...

I try Number Shapes Add-on but only numbering start with 1 is provided, why?

Actually, you CAN select 1. , 2. , etc as preceeding text with the Number
Shapes Add-on.

But i can see only 1., A., a., I., i., step, as options at Preceding Text.

I am using Visio Pro 2002 SP-2

Isn't that what you asked for?
On Page 1 - you select 1.
On Page 2 - you select 2.
etc

The ACTUAL page number "=PAGENUMBER() " can be misleading because you may
have inserted some background or review pages.

But i don't see "2." is available to select at Number Shapes add-on\Preceding
Text. Only
"1.", "A.", "a.", "I.", "i.", "step." are available no matter where i was.
That means only "1.", "A."... can be select on page 2, 3 or 4. If I select
"1." on page 2. Then the numbering on page 2 will be exactly the same as on
page 1.

Is it a limitation of version 2002 so that no "2." can be selected?

Have you tried just entering 2 yourself, ignoring what is in the list?

i can't enter anything, it is a list and only able to select.

I can just type in anything in Visio 2003.
Are you able to chnage the Shape Number Text custom property after to have
numbered?

I can change the Shape Number Text custom property and the number changed.
But I can't change at add-on\number shape. Now I am using version 2002 SP-2.

Next week I will upgrade to version 2003. Hope it will be fixed. Thanks.

I have been trying change my beginning number so that the numbering sequence
is 4.1.1 etc. I don't see the Number Shapes Add-on.

In Visio 2003 it is under Tools/Addons/Visio Extras

I should have stated that I have Visio 2002. Our company has not yet
upgraded to 2003 and won't for some time. Is there anyway around this
numbering problem for version 2002? I looked at someone machine at work who
had the version 2000 and they could actually type in the "Preceding Text
Box". There is only a drop down menu in 2002 and I can't type in that box at
all. HELP!
