I have an Excel file within a subfolder and when I create a Hiperlink its
open up into the browser. How can I make it open into MS Excel instead of
the IE6?

You can't for the internet (it is a known browser mime file type)
- locally or for users on an intranet see

Place the file in a ZIP file (compression tool need such as Winzip).

This will prompt with the download dialogue box etc, then the user can unzip the
file and open it at their leisure in MS Excel.

The file doesn't actually open in the browser; it opens in MS Excel if the user
has it; or in the excel reader if the user has it, within a browser window (like
with PDF's - they open in acrobat or the reader, but within a browser window.

From My Computer, of Windows Explorer, select Tools, Folder Options..., File Types, scroll down to XLS, select Advanced, and uncheck "Browse in same window". That has worked for me...

Hi Laurent,

The steps in KB article: 162059 will work for you:

To configure Internet Explorer to open Office files in the appropriate
Office program by using the Folder Options tool:

1. Open My Computer.
2. On the Tools menu (or the View menu), click Folder Options (or click
Options).
3. Click the File Types tab.
4. In the Registered file types list, click the specific Office document
type (for example, Microsoft Excel Worksheet), and then click Advanced (or
click Edit).
5. In the Edit File Type dialog box, click to clear the Browse in same
window check box (or click to clear the Open Web documents in place check
box).
6. Click OK.

Hope it helps.

Sincerely,

Arnold Gao
