This looks to me like a UNIX solution. My provider tells me that .htaccess
does not work on Windows .NET servers. Is this correct?

No, they just say you can't do it. So I bought a bit of sw that does and it
seems to work with Publisher. I'll post again if all is ok (or not) if people
are interested.

On the server I use there is only one choice for windows hosting and that is
the master log in and password (surely do not want to do that). I have a
UNIX account that allows individual folder protection.
