How to preclude macros when opening Word files?

R

When I receive email attachments in DOC/RTF format I want to be able to open
them with a "viewer" that precludes execution of macros (or any other
potentially malicious code). I Have Windows XP (SP2) and Office 2000; what
should I download/install from the Microsoft website?

Same question for PowerPoint and Excel.

Thanks!

Windows XP includes WordPad (Start - Programs - Accessories). It views Word
files (dot and rtf) and does not recognize or execute macros.

You don't need to download or install anything. Go to Tools > Macro >
Security and choose medium or high.
