how to recover corrupt presentations

Hi Gurus,

Anyone know how to recover a corrupt Microsoft Powerpoint v.X (for
macintosh) presentation?

When I try to load it the error reads:

Powerpoint cannot load file xxx The file may be corrupt, in use, or of
a type not recognized by Powerpoint.

the file extension and icon show up correctly on the Desktop. Any
feedback would be greatly appreciated. Please feel free to email me
