How to reduce entire document to fit smaller size paper

I just created a flyer with Word 97.

The flyer now prints out on a standard 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper in
portrait mode.

I'd like to be able to reduce the printed size of the document to about
half it's size so that I could print two flyers side-by-side on the
same size paper in landscape mode.

The flyer contains many rows of text, many in different fonts. I'd
like to avoid the tedium of having to re-size each row of type to fit
the new smaller format.

Is there a way to resize the entire document in one fell swoop? For
example is there a way to downsize it to 45% of it's orginal size,
while retaining the relative point size differences between the rows of
type?

This can be handled automatically by the printer driver (if your driver
supports it). Most small office laser printers can handle this. Change
to landscape mode. Then go to print > properties > layout > advanced >
document options > page layout > 2up (1x2). That should print out side
by side in landscape mode. Of course, you'll also have to duplicate
page 1 of the flyer onto page 2 to have it print twice.

Thanks Bucky!

I don't have my own printer, I use the laser printers at my local
public library.

Your instructions are clear and easy to follow and I've printed them
out and will take them to the library with me this afternoon to test
them out.

But there's one point I don't get. Where you said:

"Of course, you'll also have to duplicate page 1
of the flyer onto page 2 to have it print twice."

I don't understand if you mean by that that when I'm at home and have
my original document open in World 97 on my home computer I need to
copy and paste the contents of page 1 onto page 2.

Or if you mean that when I'm at the library ready to print the flyer,
that there will be an option in the page layout dialogue box which
will allow me to "duplicate page 1."

Yes, copy page 1 onto page 2 in Word.

Thanks again, Bucky!

One more question before I head to the library to try printing this.

You said to "Change to landscape mode."

By that do you mean to do it as part of the page setup in my Word 97
file before I save the file to a floppy on my computer at home? That
is to say:

File>Page Setup>Paper Size>Orientation>Landscape?

Or is it something I set in the printer driver when I'm at the library?

I wasn't clear about that. It is in the printer setting, not the Word
page setup.

Print > Properties > Layout > Landscape.

Hey Bucky!

I thought I should check in to offer you my thanks for all your help.

I now know how to print my flyers reduced to fit side-by-side on an 8.5
x 11 sheet of paper, thanks to your guidance and patience.

It turns out the printer commands at my local public library are quite
different from the ones you listed. But by mucking about with the
different commands I was able to find the ones that did the job. I
could never have done it without having you at my elbow.

In case you're interested the command sequence I hit on, it went
something like this:

Print > Zoom > Pages Per Sheet > 2

I'm typing that from memory, so may have left out a step of two, but it
gives you the idea. The next time I go to the library I'm going to
copy it down exactly onto a 3x5 card and then tape the card to the
inside of my floppy wallet.

Again, many thanks for sticking with me and being so patient with me.
