After furious head scratching, lost asked:

I'll tell you EXACTLY what error messages I get when I try to uninstall the
trial version of Office 2003 under "Add and Remove Programs".
1. Box titled Windows Installer, preparing to remove.
2. Box titled msiexec.exe. msiexec.exe has encountered a problem and needs
to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Have sent error report so
many times, I've lost count.
3. Box titled Windows Installer. Unexpected termination. Click on OK.
4. Box titled Add or Remove Programs. Fatal error during installation.
Click on OK.

THOSE are the EXACT error messages. I downloaded this free trial from the
Microsoft web site and I am SO SORRY that I did. Not only does it cause a
"Generic Host Process Error", it disables my Windows Security Protection and
will not allow Automatic Updates to find and install security updates! Any
help you can give me to get this program OFF my computer would greatly be
appreciated!!
