How to remove Underlines

A

Apan

Office XP (2003)

Recently some how a change occured in my setting such that when I open a
page for a new mail - the signature is underlined. All return mails are
underlined. Even the return address in Envelop is underlined.
I checked every possible source and set my fonts to without underline. My
style window default is no underline. Still the signature is underlined.
Almost all style headings are underlined.
New blank page shows the Underline symbol is tagged.
I ran Defender and McAfee ( it does cleaning of spyware plus normal virus)
and the system came out clean
I have checked the Mail format, I have set the Enevelop font w/o underline,
I selected a without underline. Still new document is coming up with
underline.

Where should I look for this default change?

Do I have to re-install the Office XP?

The first thing I would try is a System Restore to a date before the
problem started.

P.S. Office XP and Office 2003 are different things.

Actually I did that after posting the mail. However, I did not go back
enough. In the process, I had to download all the upgrades that happened
after that date. I had downloaded Defender after that date and it is wiped
out now. I have to download that software again.

I am running Office XP.

Is there any default setting that may cause this problem or my software
screwed up by something else?

I will go back earlier date for restore.

Are you using Word or Outlook as the email editor?
Does changing the editor make a difference in behavior for you?
Does it work correctly in Outlook Safe Mode?
Start-> Run; outlook.exe /safe

Bad idea to immediately do a System Restore on this one. Not enough has been
known about the issue yet to go drastic on solving it. Right now the issue
is only small, when doing a System Restore you could be changing so much to
your system that it creates even more work to recover from it than actually
solving this issue.

Also, it's more likely to be a configuration issue at user scope than at the
machine scope. Suggesting a more targeted fix would benefit the OP.

I am using Word as e-mail editor. I chaged the editor to Word Rich text and
the underlines are gone. There was a message related to Active-X control
warning me that the page may not be displayed properly.
I have not tried to start outlook in safe mode.
Is there a way to save a style as default style in word?

Not exactly what I meant, but it will do ;-)
I actually meant what happens if you change the Word editor to the Outlook
editor but based on your findings, I expect it to be gone too.

It appears that you either have a corrupt normal.dot file for Word or having
an addin installed that causes this. The ActiveX warning is even more likely
to be caused by an addin. Reset your normal.dot file by renaming it to .old
when Outlook and Word are closed and the issue should be gone. Afterwards,
you might need to reapply some personalization settings if Word.

A big thank you for the help.
