how to remove unwanted office toolbar

Hi,
I installed WordMagic (translation software) which in turn installed office
plugins leaving an unwanted toolbar in Word and Excel (Office 2003). Even if
I now uninstall WordMagic or choose the setup option to remove the plugins,
the office toolbars are still there. Is there any procedure to remove the
toolbars manually (or programmatically)?

Hi

From the View menu select Toolbars and untick the one you don't want. Is
that what you mean?

Do the commands on the commands on the toolbar still function? If not then
go to Tools/Customize. On the Toolbars tab, select the toolbar and then
click Delete. If the toolbar returns when you restart the application, or if
you are unable to delete them, for Word check the Office Startup folder in
the Office installation path and see if there is an add-in present, and for
Excel, check the XLStart folder.

the buttons are enabled but they don't do nothing after WordMagic is
deinstalled.
Yes; the toolbar reappears next time the office application is restarted
Both, the Startup and XLStart folders are empty

If they reappear then there's an add-in loading the toolbar that is still
present. In Word, go to Tools/Templates and Add-ins and see if there is a
template in the "Global templates and add-ins" list. If so, note the name
and use Windows Search to locate it.

For Excel, go to Tools/Add-ins and check the Add-ins list.

No, the list is empty. In Excel, the list indicates the following:

Analysis ToolPak
Analysis ToolPak - VBA
Conditional Sum Wizard
Euro Currency Tools
Internet Assistant VBA
Lookup Wizard
Solver Add-in

However I located the file that with all likelihood contains the plugin.
It's a dll under the 3rd party software directory. However, when I try to
rename or remove it the file is reinstalled when Word or Excel is started
and the toolbar reappears.
In addition I noticed in Word after choosing Organizer in Tools/Templates,
under the the Toolbars tab, that the toolbar is listed in Normal.dot.
However even if I select it and click Delete the toolbar reappears the next
time Word is started.
In Excel there is no similar button under Tools/Add-ins so I have no idea
where the toolbar comes from.

From what you've described it means the add-in is still installed, or the
functionality that is creating the toolbar is still installed, and more than
likely it's a COM add-in. Those can be a little tricky to find depending on
how they were created/installed. Here's an article that contains some
troubleshooting steps you can use to locate it:

Disregard the title and the symptoms. What you need is the Resolution
section, starting with Method 1. Start with it for Word and work your way
down. Once you find the add-in for Word I suspect it will also resolve the
issue for Excel.
