how to reset keyboard arrow directions?

D

dukylady

I accidentally touched something on keyboard, and now my "right" arrow only
goes left. My other arrows are correct ONLY the right arrow has changed
direction and I can't figure out what I've done. Does anyone know how to
reset the keyboard with xp home edition? Or to touch keys to reset the arrow
itself?

Sorry - not an Office issue.

Sorry, yes this is an office problem. My "right" arrow works fine in
"notepad", it works fine in "excel" and in "email text". The only place my
right arrow on keyboard will NOT work is in Microsoft Office Word. I need
this arrow to do my work and I cannot figure out how to get it back on track.
I know I accidentally clicked on some keys (I was typing too fast, and on
the wrong keys), and that's how the problem began. There has to be a simple
solution as to click on some keys like Ctrl, Alt, or something like that with
a key to reset the "right" arrow key.

Your original post didn't mention Word, and you still haven't told us what
version you're using. Dusting off the crystal ball, I'm going to guess
that it's Office 2003, and I'm further going to guess that you may have
accidently set up a shortcut that you didn't intend.

I don't have Word 2003 at hand to test with, so these instruction may not
apply exactly, but they ought to be similar to what you'll see.

Open Word and click on Tools in the menu bar, then click Customize.
There should be a button labeled "Keyboard" near the bottom of the
resulting box. Click that. Click in the box labeled "Press new shortcut
key", then press the right-arrow key. The word "Right" should appear in
the box, and below the box should be "Currently assigned to: CharRight".
If you see something else, the key has been reassigned.

In that case, you should be able to undo the reassignment by scrolling
down in the Categories box and selecting "All commands", then scrolling
down in the Commands box and selecting CharRight, then clicking Assign
and Close.

If Word 2003 is very different from Word 2000, I'm sure someone will jump
in with corrections.

No, it is a hardware problem, best fixed in a group for your hardware.

You're a lifesaver, thanks a million, it worked just fine, and you assumed
right, I do have office 2003, but your instructions were perfect and all is
back to normal. Again, thank you so much. I knew it was something that
simple, but just couldn't find it by myself.

I'm glad I could help. Thanks for letting us know that it worked.
