How to reset new mail counter

Outlook reports 10 new mail in inbox; but the mailbox is completely emtpy.
Hoe do I reset this counter on the client without recreating a mailbox in
Exchange?

Try right-clicking the Inbox folder and choosing "Mark All as Read"
