Mist -

In Windows XP ----

While viewing the desktop, press the F1 key. In the search box, type
"restore" or "last known good". (Without the quotes) There's a lot to read
there.

What do you use to back it up?

We use DriveImage 7.0 that save the entire disk image to a secondary HD on a
different box. Take about 30 mins to save 15gb.

It makes restoration a snap and provides a easy method to swap out drives to
increase capacity.

Try double clicking the time in the bottom right of the screen. This opens
up a window where you can choose the time and date. Good luck.

Hmm, is that what was meant? When I think of restore it means to make it
look like it did at that point in time.

You're assuming they do a backup. Betcha 50¢US they don't use any back-up
methods.

<snort!> That's probably the only backing up they (or many of us) ever do.
And yes, I'll admit it - I haven't done a backup for ages.

Hi Mist,
You didn't give much information, so everyone are just guessing for your real problem.
And it is up to you to choose among the best solution presented here. Don't forget to
read my first 2 footnote links --- it will help you and make life much easier for all of us.

So, this is one of my guess. If you can not switch-on your PC normally and you see
only first 2 opening pages or logo then black screen appear. OS is Windows XP.

Solution:
I would restart your PC another time. Upon switch on Press F8 key immediately and
continue pressing down until Windows Advance Option Menu appear. Read the
instruction below the screen or use your Up & Down arrows keys to choose
"Last known good configuration" then press Enter.

Hope this will gives new life to your PC ;o) or you must post again and tell us more.
