How to retrieve personal folder?

On my new Mac powerbook running system 10.3.9, there was a brief period when
I was forced by an employer to use Outlook 2001 under Classic to connect to
their corporate server. During that time, my Outlook Personal Folder
accumulated 21MB of files, on my hard drive.

I've left that company and am no longer able to access their Exchange
Server.

But when I try to launch Outlook under Classic, to look acccess all those
files in my personal folder, Outlook won't start; it refuses to run if it
can't connect to the exchange server...even if I configure it to "work
offline".

So how do I get Outlook to launch (without an Exchange Server connection)?
How do I get access to the contents of my old Outlook Public Folder, and how
can I get all those emails transferred into Entourage where I can view them?

You're looking for the PST Import Tool for Entourage 2004 for Mac. You
can download it from
<http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx?pid=download&location=/mac/d
ownload/office2004/pstimport.xml&secid=4&ssid=15&flgnosysreq=True>.

Hope this helps! bill

Hello, I'm preparing to move all of my Mac Outlook 2001 users to Entourage
2004. Most of these people have 5 or so years worth of data stored in many
different personal folders which we store on a server. I have not used this
pst import tool so I wanted to ask what if any problems have been
encountered? Also, with Entourage 2004, will I be able to set up the client
so that they can still access personal folders from a server? Thank you for
any advice.

Hi Jen!

I don't have any record of problems with the import, but keep in mind
that your original Outlook 2001 .pst files aren't being converted. If
something goes wrong, your original data isn't touched. (Of course, you
can always dupe your .pst files before importing just in case.)

Entourage does not support .pst files but it does have the ability to
allow you to drag messages from your Exchange account into folders under
the "On My Computer" account. This is in effect archiving your messages
locally and off the server. However, you don't have the ability to open
multiple personal folder files or the ability to close them and pass
them along to someone else as you would with .pst files.

Hope this helps! bill

Hi and thanks for the reply. I used the PST import tool and then was able to
take the identies folder and put that on the home server . Remove the folder
from the local drive, create an alias to the one I copied to the server and
put the alias back in its place and this allowed me to store my "pst" on the
home server as we do with other Outlook clients. I also thought that perhaps
putting them into public folders and locking them down for each user. That
way they don't count against the message store and are accessible from
either platform. Mac or pc.
