how to save a word file according to change in the file name in fo

Hi,
can anyone tell me how to save a word file according to change in the file
name of footer ?

The footer may reflect the file name. That is built in. So perform Save
As, then type in the NEW file name and select the filename field in
footer and select Update Field then the footer will change to match.

Hi Bob,
Thanx for your reply. My problem is footer is not reflecting in the fie
name.for example suppose file name is M123-roland.doc .when i change the file
name in footer as M123.doc and after that when i go to the Save As then i get
File name:M123-roland.doc but i want to get it as M123. so can you help me
how to get this?i am using MS Office 2003.

As I said you are doing it backward. The Footer may be a field that
reflects the current filename. If you instead insist on typing the newly
intended filename into the footer manually, then simply select what you
typed, then press CTRL+C to copy the text, Then go to Save As, and press
CTRL+V to insert the copied text.

Hi Bob,
Thanx for yor quick response.I want to do this automitically not like as
copy , paste.
i.e when i will change file name in the footer and Save As from File menu
then file name will be according to my changed file name automiticaly.

You would need to record a Macro to do this. You would be better served
to RENAME the file and THEN update the footer FILENAME field to reflect
the new information.

Macros are created by clicking Tools, Macros, Record new macro, then you
perform the steps you wish to record, then "stop recording", the NEXT
time you need to perform the steps, you run the macro. There is also
considerable guidance to be found in Word Help, by looking up the word
macro.
