How to save settings in Office 2007? No Save My Settings Wizard

The Save My Settings Wizard is gone. I have read that you "are supposed to
use" either the Vista Easy Transfer Wizard or the User State Migration Tool
3.0. I'm not running Vista so I can't use that one. The USMT captures
desktop, and application settings, as well as user accounts and users' files,
and then migrates them to a new Windows installation which is not what I want
to do. I just want to save my Office settings the way that I like with them.

The decision was to move this feature to Windows.

Then that was a poor product management decision.

Sorry, those two are the only tools available.

I reiterate that it was a poor decision because the two Windows alternatives
are not comparable nor do they serve the same need.

I know this is an old @55 thread, but I was re-installing Outlook 2003
just so I could load my settings before re-installing Office 2007. And I
just want to reiterate to anyone at MS how retarded a decision it was to
get rid of the settings wizard; really really stupid. It was simple and
easy and always worked. WTH?!

It has been decreed that you will use Windows Easy Transfer (WET, get it?)
for this functionality. Of course, if you are using Office 2007 with an
operating system previous to Vista you are out of luck.

You will like WET. I promise. It's easy. It even has the work "easy" in its
name.

Okay, you're right. WTH, Microsoft? Did you put the braindead cousin of
SOMEONE IMPORTANT (probably the same dork who develops MS Money) in charge of
this project?

WET is okay for copying OS and application settings and data between
systems. It's stupid to have to use it for this purpose. Stupid I tell 'ya!

I'd probably use WET if I used Vista. I use Server 2003 x64 and it work
great!

Thanks for the wet tip, man

i need to send my hptablet back for service and of course that means
that all my settings will disappear - which of the methods can i use to

You haven't given us nearly enough information to even make a guess.

1. May we assume that, since you're posting in a thread about Office 2007
that you are using Office 2007?

2. Which operating system are you using?

3. Are you ONLY concerned about your Office settings, or are you concerned
about other settings / preferences, like those within the operating system?

4. Are you concerned about saving your data, or do you already know how to
take care of that?

5. Is your HP Tablet PC part of a network so that you can save information
from it to another PC? Do you have the ability to write data CDs / DVDs?

Forgive the second reply. I didn't read your post carefully enough. You
already answered my question about how the backup would be performed. You
want to use an external hard drive. USB-connected? Also, you might tell us
what is wrong with your computer because that just might have an impact upon
choices of backup methods.

Even if you're using Windows XP, there is an Office 2007 Settings Backup
Wizard program out there that might help.

Thanks, IMouse for this link. I'll be getting the program soon.

I just need to note my opinion here. I love Microsoft Office. I've been
using it and teaching it for, well, over 10 years, it turns out. However, I
am appalled they would take this absolutely essential-for-many tool out of
the tools accompanying the Office Suite and sell it as an extra add-on. I
used, and taught, the Save My Settings Wizard for Office 2003 regularly
because our school (Charter College in Anchorage, Alaska) has a network
security level that does not allow personal settings to be saved. By using
this feature, all of my students were able to modify their toolbars, another
thing I taught and used extensively, save their settings, and restore them
each time they logged on to another computer. Granted, the Office 2007 Suite
doesn't have as many personalization options. But it does have some. For
instance, adding Quick Print to the Quick Access toolbar, and saving names to
the Personal Dictionaries. It is a real pain not to be able to click in the
Office Tools and run this option. And, frankly, I think Microsoft is getting
enough money from us by having us dish out the high cost of the new suite
that they should re-add this feature.

Keep on smilin' anyway!

FWIW, They didn't supply the Save My Setting Wizard for Office 2007 since
the functionality is available in Windows. If you have Vista use the
Windows Easy Transfer Wizard.

Which as we know, messes up Outlook........

I am looking for the actual file location of the settings set up fo
office 2007.

No wizard, no hack - package, no third party app. just the simpl
default location MS Office 2007 saves the settings a user sets, tha
should stay when ther reboot the machine.

Trying to resolve an on-going issue related to roaming profiles an
hive cleanup that wipes these setting each time the computer shut
down.

Does anyone know where these settings get saved
