How to set Office Document Imaging as a printer option?

Dave

I have Office Professional 2003 running on my Toshiba Tecra A4 laptop. I had
barely gotten it out of the box when I took off on an 8 month road trip. I
found it convenient when checking my bank statements, etc., on the road, to
choose a printable view and then print to Microsoft Office Document Imaging
file. It came up as one of the printer options.
Now that I'm back in the office and tied into the LAN with my laptop, the
MDI option has disappeared from my list of printers (even when I'm not
plugged into the LAN). It just disappeared. How do I get it back?
I read one exchange in the community that suggested going to Add/Remove
Programs and clicking on Change for Microsoft Office 2003. They said that I
would see DMI under office tools. However, "office tools" does not show up
as an option going that route (although it does display as an option in
Programs/Microsoft Office along with Excel, Word, Publisher, Access, et al.

1. Close all running applications. If you have any Office application running, the driver will not be installed properly.
2. Go to "Control Panel" and "Add or Remove Programs".
3. Click on "Microsoft Office 2003" and then click on "Change".
4. Check "Add or Remove Features" and click "Next".
5. On the bottom of the page check "Choose advanced customization of applications." and click "Next".
6. Under Microsoft Office click on the + sign in front of "Office Tools"
7. Locate the object "Microsoft Office Document Imaging", click the icon and select "Not Available".
8. Click on "Update". This will uninstall the MODI driver.
9. Repeat steps 1 to 6 to go back to the same location you were before.
10. Locate the object "Microsoft Office Document Imaging", click the icon and select "Run from My Computer".
11. Click on "Update".

Once this is complete, you can go to "Control Panel" and then to "Printers and Faxes",
and if you see a printer with the name of "Microsoft Office Document Image Writer",
then the MODI (Microsoft Office Document Imaging) is properly installed.
