How to set the PM's permissions.

Hello everyone,

Could it be possible to set the PM's permissions that he can only open his
own projects by write/read?

Any help and suggestions are appreciated.

In the future, please let us know what version of Project Server you are
using. 2002, 2003, or 2007? To answer your question, I'm a bit confused.
The default permissions in Project Server allow a PM to see and open only
his/her own projects Read/Write. By chance, have you or someone else
changed the default permissions to that your PM's can now open every project
Read/Write? Let us know.

is it not easier to set permission via the default permission template via
PWA /PS07

Eh ?? R/w for ALL projects can only be done by admin.. yeah I would like to
know too how another PM can get r/w access to another project !!

hi Dale & /PD,

Thanks very much for your quickly reply. yee, My site is PWA2007 and I have
not changed the default permissions of PM. There are three default category
permissions of the PM(My project category).

1.The Project owner or the task state owner
2.The project's team member
4.All projects assigned to resources that they manage

So the situation is that every PM can open the project by w/r if only he has
the project's read permission.

uder the default secucirty permission (PWA07) , the Project Manager status
is void for "Change Project State" - this implies if not the PM, they cannot
access change the state of a project..

Likewise Team members..

make sure that you ahve the corret permission and secruity tempaltes in use !

Thanks /pd but i am sure that i do not change any default permissions
template. Mybe i still have not maken myself clear ahead. Let us see a simple
sample as follow:

PMa have a project named A and PMb have a peoject named B. Meanwhile , PMa
is a resource of the project B and PMb is a resource of the project A. In
this situation, it seem to be that PMa and PMb both can open project A,b by
r/w.

Thanks in advance.

OK, now I finally understand what you are trying to do. Thanks for the
additional information. Here's what you need to do so that your PM's can
only open and edit the projects that they manage, and cannot open projects
in which they are team members:

1. Log into Project Web Access with administrator permissions.
2. Click Admin - Manage security.
3. Select the My Projects category and click the Modify Category button.
4. In the Projects section, select only the "Allow users in this category
to view all projects they manage" option and deselect ALL OTHER OPTIONS in
this section.
5. Click the Save Changes button.

Hope this helps.

Hi Dale,

This post is almost exactly what I need...except...

I have the same situation as Janson, but I need to be able to allow my PMs
to see and open the projects, but not save them unless they are the owner.

example: PMa is in PMb's project team. PMa needs to be able to open the
project to see whatever, but PMb does not want PMa to be able to modify
anything in the project. Is there a way to allow PMa to view the project,
but not be able to save the project?

Thanks,
Josh
