how to setup home environment to test with sharepoint?

al

I'm planning to upgrade to fp2003 on my home pc running xp pro. I want to use the xml and xlst capabilities within xp but read that it requires sharepoint. I thought sharepoint is a server software which I don't have. How do I setup a environment on my home pc to run and test the fp2003 xml, xlst. thank you.

Hi,

You can install the SharePoint Extension on WXP Pro. See

Hi Al,

Unfortunately, the XML/XSLT capabilities in FrontPage 2003 require authoring
directly against a Windows SharePoint Server web site. This is because the
XSLT data view is a web part and requires the SharePoint framework in order
to work. WSS requires Windows Server 2003 because of the requirements they
have for IIS 6.0.

What this boils down to is that you cannot run the XSLT Data View Web Part
on a Windows XP machine.

Sorry the news isn't better.

In order to test/run WSS services, you have to have a Windows 2003 Server,
at a minimum, the Web Edition:

You can install the SharePoint Extension on WXP Pro. See

Are you sure about this? It would be great news if true,
but I couldn't find any mention of Windows XP at the URL
you mentioned.

I did find links to download an SDK, which seems to
consist primarily of a compressed help file. And that help
file contains this statement:

One of the minimum system requirements for Windows
SharePoint Services is the Windows Server 2003
Operating system. Additionally, you must install
and configure Internet Information Services (IIS)
and ASP.NET before you install Windows SharePoint
Services.

Yes, but the SharePoint Team Services Extensions are not the same as the new
WSS services under Windows 2003 server, which is required by FP2003.

I'm sure Jim.

I've installed them on my WXP Pro systems.

Mike, how did you setup your sharepoint? The links you provided doesn't reference the installation.....you're talking to a newbie here........thanks

I was asking Mike.

Mike, is that it?

That what you installed on Windows XP Pro were the SharePoint Team
Services Extensions (which were the FP2002 server extensions plus
extra features), and not Windows SharePoint Services (which are
documented everywhere else as requiring Windows Server 2003)?

I'm not asking to be picky. I'm asking because it would be wonderful
if developers could build applications that run on Windows SharePoint
Services without having to buy a full copy of Windows Server 2003.

Sorry for any confusion.
