Pivot tables in ’97 was a piece of cake. Pivot tables in 2003 is another story.
What is the best way for me to create pivot tables for other users? I
figured out how to make them for my own use, but I have two problems when I
create them on my system and save them on the server for others to access.
1. Since I made them on my system, when the other users try to update the
linked info they get an error saying they are not authorized to access the
data and it may ask them for the admin pwd. They can open the Excel
spreadsheet pivot table, but can not update it.
2. Since I made the link on my system, the path to the database is different
than it would be from another users system. Where is it poss. to change the
path to the data?
It is very inconvenient to have to create pivot tables at the users system,
so I like to share a users drive/folder and open their front end on my
system. The backend is obviously on the server.
How do other people do it? Do you first create the query and link an Excel
spreadsheet to it, or link the Excel spreadsheet to a pivot table? Both ways
work. Or do you place pivot tables somehow in a Data Access page? Do you
first create the query, then create the pivot table of that query, then go to
Excel and click “data, Pivot table, external dataâ€, and link, and then embed
the Excel spreadsheet into a data access page?
I know others have the same dilemma because pivot tables are so useful, and
I understand why Microsoft changed it, so that one wouldn’t have to have
Access to view pivot tables.
Thanks in advance,
Will
