How to show new mail in Inbox and Unread Mail folder?

New mail only shows in the Inbox while the Unread Mail folder remains empty.
What happened? It worked previously.

If you right click the search folder and select Customize and then Browse
typically you should have the Root Folder and the "search sub folder"
checked
