how to sort address book by First Name when creating a new email

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel Email Client: imap I can't for the life of me figure this out.

If i'm just looking at my address book i can get it to sort by First Name.

However, if i'm creating a new email, or forwarding one, etc... and i'm adding people to the To field and choosing them from the pop up address book box the entries are always sorted by last name.

is there a way to have them sorted by first name in this pop up box?

thanks for any help.

i'd like to not have to type to search... just be able to scroll up and down my list that is sorted by First Name.

figured there has to be a way to do this.

Diane,

thanks for the reply, but i believe that link is referring to actually viewing the entire address book.

my issue is when i have a new email message open... .i click on the To, CC, or BCC field to add a recipient and a small pop up of my address book comes up where i can scroll through my contacts and double click them to add them to the To, CC, or BCC... i'd like that list in the pop up to be sorted by first name.

You can get the little mini Address Book to show up when you click on
the icon above the To line (right after check names), but there is no
first name column.

Why not just start typing the name? Entourage is smart about giving you
choices.

Diane,

it's just much easier to be able to scroll through the address book and click on the names i want to include in the email... especially if i have multiple recipients. i would rather not have to go to my keyboard and start typing for every contact i want to include.

i'm guessing there is just no way to sort the contacts this way in the pop up address book.

You're correct that you cannot sort this mini address book the way you
want. However, Diane is right about typing in the To, Cc and Bcc fields.

You don't need to type the full name or the full address. Instead, you
just *start* typing and Entourage narrows your choices to only those
that match. For example, typing:

Jo

narrows your list to:

Joe Cool
Joseph Change
John Silver
Mike Johnson
Same Jones

Typing just one more letter:

Joe

narrows your list to:

Joe Cool

Just hit the Return key and you're ready to type your next address.

Hope this helps!
