How to start rem work at status date?

This should be easy, but I am definately missing something.
How do I get the remaining work on a resource to begin at
the status date and spread to the end of the duration of a
task?

Wouldn't a person expect MSP to behave this way by default?

I have tried the tools:tracking:update project:start
remaining work at <specific date> to no avail.

I am using MSP2002pro (sp1). Is it only this s/w version?
Does this work for anyone?

Any ideas would be appreciated.
