How to stop auto capitalization

How do I, in simple terms, stop my Word 2000 from automaticallt
capitalizing the first word on a line.

When I type

water

Word 2000 changes it to

Water

and I do want this. Thank you for any help.

Tools > Autocorrect

On the "Autocorrect" tab, uncheck "Capitalize first letter of sentences"
and/or "Capitalize first letter of table cells" according to your needs.
