how to stop drag-highlight from taking off?

Hi, I've experienced this in different releases of many Office apps including
Project and Excel. If I want to highlight a range of cells by dragging across
and down, once the highlighted section gets beyond actual data, it "takes
off" and scrolls way to fast for me to select accurately. Is there a way I
can slow it down?

Yes, the further you move the cursor past the bottom edge of the window
the faster it goes. Otherwise, use the Arrow and and Pg Down keys if
your reflexes can't keep pace with the PC.

You have a couple options, as you noted it only happens in specific versions
(older versions) so upgrading is one option. Otherwise, unless you get the
hang of not dragging too close to the edge of the window, as Bob I
describes, you can click at the beginning of the first cell in your desired
range, hold Shift, scroll down (don't move the cell pointer), and then click
at the end of the desired selection.
