How to stop the Template user from modifying it?

Hi,

I have a query.
I have created a document template and users are using
that. My concern issue is that I do not want to allow user
to chage the formatting styles of the document. They
should be allowed to enter only text.

How to get it?

Thanks in advance,

Hi Girish

There are two issues here.

First, in any version of Word, you can easily stop users changing the *template*. Simply put the template in a folder on the server
with read-only rights. At Tools > Options > File Locations, point the Workgroup Templates folder to the folder where you stored the
template. If you do that, users can create a new document from the template, and the document will inherit the template's styles.
But from then on, the user can modify styles within the document.

Second, only in Word 2003 can you absolutely prevent users from changing styles in the *document*. To do that, Tools > Protect
Document.

However, in earlier versions of Word you can protect a document for forms, so that users can only type in specific areas of the
form. This may or may not be appropriate for your needs. See the "Forms" section at
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/TblsFldsFms/index.htm for more info.

Hope this helps.
