how to stop "you have unsent messages" tab when exiting

box pops up upon exiting which says "you have unsent messages in your outbox"
(even if I do not have messages), will exit in XXXXX number of seconds.
how do I keep this box from coming up?

Version of Outlook? Type of email account?

Most likely, you have unsent read receipts. See http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/delete_rr.htm for instructions on deleting them.
