How to switch a resource by another one on all tasks/projects

Hi,

In case where an employee A is replaced by an new employee B, is there a way
to automatically reassign all remaining work of assignments of employee A to
new employee B in all projects ?

Thanks,
Lionel

Lionel,

The "Build Team from Enterprise" dialogue box will let you "Match"
resources, this leverages Generic resources and skills defined in outline
codes. If you are not using these features you can simply scroll down the
list of available resources on the left hand side, select the suitable
candidate (B) to replace Resource A and click the replace button. This will
neatly swap the work from one resource to another in a single step.

I have not tested this but would assume that actual work to date performed
by A would be retained and remaining work would be assigned to B - I guess
others on the newsgroup can verify this one way or the other.

Hi Dominic,

Unfortunately this does not work if the « replaced » resource have yet
entered work on some tasks.
Moreover I’m looking for a way to switch all assignments on all projects
once for all. In deed I found in an other thread how to proceed on a project
by project basis (By using the resource usage view and drag/drop unfinished
task from Resource A to Resource B).

Thanks for your help,
Lionel

Lionel:

It's faster and easier to use the Assign Resource dialog for this. First use
the method Dominic mentioned to replace resources on not started tasks. Then
apply a filter to your project "using resources" and use the replace feature
on the Assign Resource dialog.

Thanks Gary for your response. that works. So as far as I understand there is
no way to do this for all existing projects in one action ?

Lionel:

Hint: You can open multiple projects into a temporary master plan and apply
the same actions. I suggest that you get a good book on basic Microsoft
Project functionality. It'll save you a lot of time.

If Dale and I had one available, I'd recommend it, of course. Most of the
books on the market cover the basics fairly well.
