How to Sync Files

Hi,

I'm trying to help a friend sync her computer files with
the ones I updated on her web site.

I don't use Front Page and I don't have access to her
computer to try and slog through it myself.

Can someone give me the scoop on how to make Front Page
sync the files on the server and hard drive and download
the more recent versions?

Thanks,

Since you did not use FP to build the site she can use File New Web (and select the Import Wizard)
- but that only import the files browsable in IE (not any hidden files/folders)
- or use a FTP client to download the web to a folder and then open that folder in FP using File Open Web

Actually, she does you FP to update the text of a couple
of the pages, specifically the ones we need synced.

She wanted me to make some code-level changes and I wanted
to make sure she doesn't overwrite the changes.

We ran a small test (I added a small amount of text to the
bottom of one page) and she couldn't figure out how to
sync the versions.

Is there a Dreamweaver-like Sync available in FP, or will
we have to use a different FTP (CuteFTP, WSFTP) to dl the
files and overwrite what's on her hard drive?

Thanks for the feedback.

You want "File | Publish". Open the web with recent changes directly, then
use the publish to put the web over the other one. Just enter the URL of
the destination web and authenticate.

Note the action is _NOT_ a sync, it is a "copy over everything". It can
distinquish between changed files and not changed files but its not a
"update changes in both directions" type thing.

If you have been working in one web and her in the other, one of you has to
dump the changes and repeat the work.
