how to turn off Research pane

I used to use <Alt>+<Click> to select a column.

Now I have Word 2003 and when I press <Alt> and <Click> that opens that
stupid Research pane.
What's more, it is not the same in various documents and I can not figure
out what is the difference. If I write text in one of my templates, I can
still select column with <Alt>+<Click> but if I paste Text Only in document
created with that same template, this combination opens Research pane. And I
did not find any way to turn off Research pane. Any ideas where that might
be? And how to restore use of <Alt>+<Click> for selecting columns?

After fighting with this myself for years, I've found out the answer.

From Word, press Alt-F11 to open the VB Editor.

Press Ctrl-G to open the Immediate Window.

Type this line and press Enter:

Application.CommandBars("Research").Enabled = False
