How to "un-install" MS Outlook Express "trial offer"?

J

jjgunn

I received this offer to "try" MS Outlook Express as my email.

I'm running Vista Business.

I just emailed MS Support to please terminate the program.

NOW: Do I have to wait for them? Or can I get rid of it myself?

I don't know who does what! I've used them for years, but don't know &^%$
about them.

Please note that this forum is for questions about MS Office Access, which
is the database program in the MS Office Suite. You might try searching out,
and posting your question into, a forum dealing with MS Outlook Express.

Hi.
I received this offer to "try" MS Outlook Express as my email.

I'm running Vista Business.

That doesn't sound right. Vista uses Windows Mail. Outlook Express is
"old" technology. I can't imagine Microsoft contacting you and offering to
give you this product as a trial offer, which is a (free!) part of the
operating system on older versions of Windows, to run on Vista. Perhaps it
was a third party vendor who had a product (such as a spam filter) that only
worked with Outlook Express and offered this trial offer?

The button that I click on to open up the email is titled, "Microsoft Office
Outlook". I may have been mistaken about the "Express" portion in my original
email. Does that info help make it more clear to enable an answer???

1) None of the below changes the fact that this is a forum for the Microsoft
Access database program, and your post is off-topic (i.e., quite likely out
of our area of expertise...).

2) It is a peer-to-peer newsgroup and not specifically monitored by anyone
at Microsoft.

That said, if you don't want it, I wouldn't wait.

Not sure if this was changed for Vista:
-Try going to Start>ControlPanel>"Add & Remove programs"
-See if Outlook or Microsoft Outlook are listed. If so, try to uninstall if
you are not using.
Or, look around your Start menu for Microsoft Outlook (might appear more
than once) & see if there is also an uninstall button.

This whole thing sounds fishy to me. Microsoft *never* sends programs,
updates, patches, etc. via email. Hasn't done so for years/decades/ever. Way
too many impersonators sending malware. If you got a program via email
(unclear how you got it), it did not come from Microsoft. (Possible
exception if you were in an exchange with Support, but even then it would
have to be a pretty extreme situation).

You might have gotten sucked into a scam of some sort. Hope not.

Good Luck,

HTH,

Hope you don't mind this but, you've got me curious and a bit suspicious. I
received an email from a friend I know well that had an attachment; a video
to download. When I tried, it wouldn't download and asked if I wanted to
search the web to find a program that would open it. Sounded if I found a
program, I'd be able to view video. So, I said yes and up popped this trial
offer. By that time, the friend is standing behind me at my desk...office
boredom...sending vids back & forth. He says (***I KNOW he's not in on this,
if it IS something crooked***) "well, if you want to see this video and ones
in the future, you should download the program." He always kinda talks
through his ass...you know the type. So, I start with the Start Wizard,
"next", "next", etc....it's this 60 day trial for what I previously
discribed. Results were it SLOWED DOWN my computer and the email procedure
itself was just SOOO funky...I couldn't believe anybody at Microsoft would
invent such a MESS!
Now it's intercepting my in-box emails, and not sending the ones I'm trying
to send...
Where might I report this...or does anyone actually give a crap....I doubt
anyone really cares.
Thanks for reading this anyway...

Microsoft didn't invent it. Some spyware scammer did, and you chose to accept
the offer to infect your computer. It's quite possibly now using your computer
to send out thousands of spam emails all over the net.

Get a GOOD antivirus program, and a GOOD spyware removal program, and run
them. You may need expert assistance; some of these can be a real nightmare to
remove.

Listen Moron, no one else accepted the offer ... you did. If you remove your
mind from the sewer for 2 secs. you'd have realized that you were scammed.
That's no one's fault but your own.

Realize too, that you are complaining to those who aren't interested in
Outlook, but were trying to help you anyway.

Before you open your foul mouth here again, realize that that kind of
language and abuse are NOT acceptable here or anywhere else. Further,
threatening anyone on the Internet is a crime.

You need to apologize to everyone here, but especially to Mr. Vinson.

Well, I'm not seeing the response you are snipping (no complaints on that
score) (msnews.microsoft.com via outlook express)

Earlier in the thread I almost suggested that since a 'friend' told him to
download the program that the OP should seek out better friends.

I guess we now know why he's stuck with the calibre of friends that he's
got.

Hi, George.
Well, I'm not seeing the response you are snipping (no complaints on that
score) (msnews.microsoft.com via outlook express)

The post only appears on the Microsoft Online Community's Web site.
Apparently, all the news servers that publish this newsgroup and the other
Web forums that connect to this newsgroup blocked the post, most likely due
to the excessive foul language. JJ's reaction was very offensive and
totally uncalled for.

Interesting. I don't know what they have done with it in Vista, yet,
but in prior versions OE is part of Internet Explorer.

Anyway sorry. This is a newsgroup dedicated to questions about Access,
the
database program in Office Professional. It appears your question may not
be related to these subjects. The Microsoft help system is not all that
clear and may have misdirected you here.

It is best to ask your questions in a newsgroup dedicated to the
subject of your question. You should find people better able to address
your problem there.
http://tc2.atspace.com/0013-HowToSearch.htm#FindNewsgroup may help.

Note: It is always best to indicate the name and version of any
program(s) you may be using when asking a question and also indicate the
operating system (like Windows XP or 98) when you ask a question.
