How to Understand MS Project

N

NewsGroup

I have joined newly in a company which is planning to implement MS Project.
I am given the task of implementing MS Project.
I am new to it.
Will it be wise to take up a new project and learn by implementing it or
should I first read about it and then go ahead?
Please offer me a piece of advice.

Hi Meena
I suggest you first read and then implement.
There are some nice books available on MS Project.
One of them is Inside Out.
While you are reading you can practice and that ways you will get best of
both worlds.

Best wishes to you

Hi Meena,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

If you want to get up and running quickly then I would strongly recommend a
2 day introductory course as there may pitfalls for the unwary. Then, in a
few months when you've got the basics sorted, go on an Advanced course. You
could also try my tutorials listed below.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Adding to Mike's advice, also obtain a copy of the "Guide to the Project
Managment Body of Knowledge" (the PMBOK) from the Project Management
Institute (www.pmi.org). IMHO, the best way to understand the way MS
Project responds and the way it's intended to be used is to get a bit of
understanding of the principles and concepts of formal Project Managment
that it is based on. It is not enough just to know how to "work the
software."
