How to unlock douments

I am using Microsoft Office word 2003 When I try to edit a saved document or
create a new one, the bottom of the screen says "This modification is not
allowed because the doucument is locked." This problem only occurs on my
computer and I never intentionally placed any restrictions on my doucuments.
I would like to know how I can unlock my documents so i can edit my work.

Have you activated your copy of Word? Check under the Help menu. If there is
a command there about "Activate" try it. If you have a version that doesn't
require activation there won't be such a command. If you have already
activated, it will tell you that.
