!! How to update Original Word & Excel 2000?

G

Guest

I've got the original versions of Word 2000 & Excel 2000 running on an
XP Home system. I'd like to patch and update them. I have the
original CD's. I also hae the CD from MS for Office 2000 SP2 and SP3.
The last time I tried to use them, they wouldn't update Word or Excel
because I hadn't bought the whole Office Suite -- I bought stand-alone
products.

Now that Office 2000 is entering the twilight of its life, is there a
way for me to patch Word and Excel so that I can still use these
programs without a security risk?

If so, what should I do?

Thank you so much.

Visit ms office update site, and check/ run 'Office update'
It will update individual apps

Thank you but -- the download is 26-40 MB. I have a 56k modem and an
ISP that drops the connection ever hour or so.

Is there a way I can change registry settings to allow the Word &
Excel updates from the Office SP2 & SP3 CD's that I already have?

If I recall correctly sp2 cannot be installed unless sp1 has been installed;
since ms will supply Office sp's on cd will they supply individual app
sp's - I dont know? -
Any security risk is likely to be minimal providing you have a decent
Firewall and AV, and assuming you dont run unknown files/docs

Hi Fishy,

Office 2000 had Service Release 1 (SR1), which was issued both as
an update CD and as full product replacement CDs. You may want
to contact Microsoft (800-360-7561) to see if Office 2000 SR1
CDs (patch or full product) are still available.

The SR1 release was a pre-requisite for applying SP2 or SP3.
