how to write superscripts

If you use them a lot as I do, place the commands on a toolbar.
Customize; they are in the Format section. Same thing for
subscript!

Just curious, are you using the superscripted characters for footnotes? If
so, use the footnoting capability that will do that for you, and more.

Insert/Reference/Footnote.
