How will Office/Win support new On. Daylight savings in 2007?

E

Ed Baxter

In 2007 Ontario will extend Daylight savings by two months. Time Zone will
still be EST, how will Office/Windows handle automatic time settings. I
understand that Quebec which is also EST, will not be changing. This past
weekend, all my PC's automatically updated their clocks.

I'm sure Microsoft developers are working on the issue
and release some sort of patch before 2007.

Perhaps the same way Arizona and Indiana (East) are supported in Windows XP
now.

The State of Indiana will be observing daylight savings time for the first
time but will remain in the Eastern timeZone on April 1, 2006 for several
counties. When testing how Outlook will handle this change when the
checkmark is placed in the daylight savings time box of Eastern Time under
the Windows clock all of the appointments scheduled after April 1 move an
hour ahead (including reocurring appointments) that were scheduled for
example at 9:00am are now 10:00am.

We have approximately 500 workstations that will need to be changed on April
1, 2006, how do we keep the Outlook 2002 and 2003 calendars to not move ahead
a hour? How is Microsoft planning to deal with this request across the state
of Indiana and the many business that will be changing?

Are you or are you not moving to Daylight savings time? It's no
different than any one else deciding to observe DST. IF you switch, IT
switches.

Hi R.K.,

You may want to check with Microsoft and/or the folks in the Windows newsgroups as well on this one.

The situation for parts of Australia in 2006 is similar and MS released a 'hotfix' for that scenario and suspect that a similar one
will be available for the U.S. for the 2007 savings settings. You may find the information in the article helpful as background for
your planning on some of the Outlook issues encountered for that update. http://www.microsoft.com/australia/timezone/2005.aspx

In addition you may want to look at using the Microsoft TZEdit.exe utility used as a method to make changes on your own to suit
individual requirements by creating reg entries that can be applied to
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Time Zones\

You may also find the information in these examples for earlier, similar scenarios, useful.

Timezone.exe is a command line utility that ships with Windows XP that will show you the current start/end date for daylight savings
on a computer or let you set a new one.
