how would i go about setting the default 'new contact' template to a custom
one in outlook? that way when I go to add a new contact, it will open up my
custom template instead of the default m$ one...

Bill,

When I follow your directions, I am able to add my custom Contacts form but
I am not able to add my custom mail message form. When I right click on my
inbox, select properties, and under the general tab try to select the custom
mail message form I have already created and publised, I receive an error
that says "you cannot create an item of this type in this folder". What do
you think is the hangup with the inbox that does not seem to exist for the
contacts folder?

That's not how you set a default message form. If you have Outlook 2000 or
later, you can make a registry change to substitute your custom form for the
default form. See
http://www.outlookcode.com/d/newdefaultform.htm#changedefault . Note that it
doesn't work completely for message forms in Outlook 2003.

What do you mean "it doesn't work completely"? Does it only work sometimes
or it doesn't work consistently?

Thanks.

The page I suggested explains the limitations.
