hp iip printing error

my friend has a hp iip printer & word 2000,W98se.
when she trys to print word docs the screen flashes and i think it is some
of the word docs. is there a problem printing word docs with old printers.
is there a fix for this

Most likely the problem is not with the printer at all but with her AV app
(if it's Norton), specifically, the Norton Office Plug-in. See “Title Bars

Hi Bob,

More than likely she also uses Norton AV which is known to cause
dialog boxes to appear behind the application window, thus the
flashing in the title bar and taskbar. Disable the "Office Plug-in"
option in Norton Options under the Miscellaneous section and see if
that rectifies the problem.
