HTML email question: Text is coming in garbled

D

DeWaun Simmons

I'm getting HTML email newsletters from various websites (Extensis.com,
DutchGardens.com, Real.com, etc.) and one day they come in readable, other
days the text is unrecognizable and garbled.

What gives? If they come in as garbled text, then the only way to ever read
them is to click on the "reply" button and just read the text...but then I
am losing the HTML formatting and graphics.

What can I do to ensure that I can read these HTML emails in Entourage
2004???

Thanks for helping!

There is a recently discovered bug affecting display of HTML mail for a
small minority of messages. I am not sure of the exact cause of the bug, or
what triggers it, but it does cause the text to be displayed 'overtyped.

The temporary work-round is to turn of the display of complex HTML mail (the
bug is in the html rendering engine used for complex html). Access this
through the Security pane of entourage preferences.

Is there a timetable for a fix of this bug? I noticed that the latest
Office 2004 update did NOT include anything for Entourage. Will the
next update, perhaps, address this html weirdness? Since I use
email-received newsletters constantly in my work, it's getting to be a
bit of MAJOR pain!
Thanks

No, no timetable. IIRC this bug was first reported after the SR1 update. MS
NEVER give advanced notice of bug fixes. We just have to sit tight and see
if/when I will be fixed.

Since this seems to be a bug in one of the HTML rendering libraries, it may
not be in the complete control of the Entourage Development Team.
