HTML mail gives exteme large font in Windows Outlook

When composing an e-mail in Entourage 2008, the mail shows up with a very large font at the receipents. Selecting another font or manual set the font-size to 10pt does not affect anything, the large fonts remain. Checking the HTML-source on the receipents (XP or NT) computer learns that Entourage sets a font-size '5', but omits the 10pt font-size setting. Also tried different fonts, e.g. the common Times New Roman and Arial, the selected font showed up, but also too large. (I am using the default settings of Entourage 2008). Any help is very welcome.

Known problem. Be a part of the solution:

Please send Hui Nee Chin (huchin AT microsoft DOT com---> fix this before
sending) more detailed information, especially:

1. Do you see this with every message with every email correspondent?
2. Do you know what email client your correspondent uses?
3. What font (name and size) do you typically use?
4. Does it occur when you reply, when they reply, or both?

To clarify things, Entourage 2008 now renders and composes using points
rather than pixels (as it did in 2004) to improve consistency between
Entourage and Safari font display. Due to this change, emails sent between
Entourage 2004 and 2008 would have slight discrepancies in font size (fonts
in emails sent with Entourage 2004 appear smaller on Entourage 2008 / fonts
in emails sent with Entourage 2008 appear larger on Entourage 2004). This is
expected behavior and we apologize to those who had been confused by this
observation.

Hello,

I can confirm the font problem Eric Hoekstra has posted.
From the moment I have been using Office 2008 I encouter the same problem.
When I compose an e-mail in Entourage 2008 it looks OK on my screen. When I send it to myself the message I recieve looks OK.
If I send a message to a collegue (Outlook) and I get a reply, my previous sent text is huge.
When I send e-mail to my personal address it looks OK when I recieve it with Entourage. However, when I use webmail it looks huge.

It looks like the fontsize is blown up when sending the message.
Hopefully Microsoft releases a fix soon.

I had a nice contact with Hui Nee Chin (see posting Diana Ross). They suspect the Dutch international/language settings to be the cause. This will probably solved in on of the upcomming updated.

I think I found the solution : if you change the settings in the preferences from HTML mail to plain text, the size of the fonts doesn't change anymore.

Actually I'm guessing that it's because you have the Dutch dictionary
enabled. It is a known issue that we're actively working on. A temporary
workaround is to use the English dictionary instead. Please note that if you
choose to use the English dictionary, you will need to relaunch Entourage to
see the change.
