HTML Page Hangs on Open

I'm asking this question on behalf of another person who
is having the following problem when using FrontPage 2000
(Office SP3):

When the person opens the html page for editing, the page
simply hangs and the utilization immediately shoots up to
100%. This page has few graphics, but many hyperlinks to
different areas of the web. According to what the person
told me, the folders are typically nested to no more than
two folders from the main page.

Because of this problem, the person has recreated the html
page multiple times (using copy and paste), but the
problem persists after the page is created. This person
has not had problems with revising HTML pages before this
problem started.

I'm not sure what to tell the person. Did the page hang
because the address contained too many characters? What
about file size (the person mentioned that the file got
slightly larger after the attempt at loading)? What would
cause this problem and how would a person go about
correcting this?

Have you tried the usual repairs.
With the web open but no pages open click Tools >
Web settings.. > Advanced and under Temporary files
click Delete files.
Close FrontPage.
Do a search for files named *.web and delete all found.
Delete the Temporary Internet, History and Cookie files.

Re-open FrontPage and then open the page in question.

It could be the size of the page: FP2000: Exceeding Upper Limit of HTML File
Size Causes FrontPage to Stop Responding (Hang)
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;229296&Product=fp2000

FrontPage has an upper limit on the size of files that can be opened for
editing in Page view of FrontPage.

If a file has more than 32,767 lines of code, FrontPage will not be able to
open it in Page view, and FrontPage will stop responding (hang) as a result
of opening the file.

I can not even begin to fathom a web page
that heavy.
Can you imagine trying to view that over a 28K modem
;-)

I don't know whether the person has already tried, but I
will on the information that you've provided.

Many thanks for your help.

None of the pages are that big. For the most part, the
html page simply lists a series of links to various PDF
files, that's all.

I've already pulled the article from the MS
knowledgebase, but this article doesn't seem to apply to
this situation. These pages are sporatically edited
anytime there's an update to a version of the PDF file
(for example, a new chapter is added to the document).
So, there's nothing fancy...no extra scripts...nothing.

Thanks for your help.
