HTML is the building blocks of a web page. While FrontPage can certainly
write HTML for you, lack of knowledge about HTML is one of the chief reasons
why people come here. They use the wrong HTML because they know nothing
about it. For example, some people will try to position text by padding it
out with spaces. In fact, there are so many problems people have because of
ignorance of HTML that I couldn't possibly list them all. A web page is not
a Word document. It is viewed by many different types of browsers on many
different types of computers, with many different scree resolutions and
browser settings. Layout is not simple or easy to master, no matter how good
your tools are.
It is best to think of FrontPage as a productivity tool. It helps you create
HTML documents by automating the process of writing out the tags and other
content. It is not, however, by any means, a panacea, or a replacement for
lack of HTML knowlege.
Bottom line: The more you know about HTML, the better a web developer you
will be. So, do you NEED to know HTML to create webs and web pages with
FrontPage? No. Do you need to know HTML in order to produce good web
content? Absolutely.
