http links are not working in Outlook

Nothing happens when I double click on a URL in Outlook. I have to cut and
past the http address into my browser.

I tried 2 other email clients (Eudora and Thunderbird) and got the same
result, so the problem is probably not an Outlook problem.

I am running Windows XP, Home Edition, with service pack 2.

The file type association for HTML files is broken. You can fix it in the
Registry or, perhaps, in Windows Explorer Tools>Folder Options>File Types.
If you want to use IE as your browser, start it and try Tools>Internet
Options>Programs>Reset Web Settings

I figured out what was wrong. "MyIE" was the culprit in my case. This was
the fix:
- go to Start | Control Panel | Performance & Maintenance
- select "File Types" from the left column to bring up the "Folder Options"
window
- select the "File Types" tab
- scroll down to [NONE] URL:Hypertext Transfer Protocol and bug the
<Advanced> tab
- set "open" as the default (it had been MyIE on my system)

Repeat for URL:Hypertext Transfer Protocol with Privacy

I don't know how this cutesy program got installed, but it certainly balled
things up!
