http upload with Vista

Though i would post back to help Vista / Publisher / Form users, as this has
been a major problem for me.

Here is the final answer (Works for me) on how to “Publish to Web with Vista
in (http)†so forms work !!!!!!

Firstly: Make sure you have FrontPage Server Extensions active on your
account (FPSE) activate this via your host.

Secondly: there is an issue is the lack of inbuilt support for WebDAV in
Vista.
This download will help: (Please download this first
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...12-632E-4C04-9382-987622ED1D64&displaylang=en

You then need to Add a network location by Open “Computer†first before you
try and save, in add new network in the present state without the above
download, Vista will not allow you to link to your server with a http
address, you will get "the folder you have entered does not appear valid,
please choose another"
Once you have downloaded the above fix follow the steps below.

1. Open Computer from start menu.
2. Right-click an empty spot main window pane. Choose "Add a Network
Location".
3. Follow on screen prompts
4. Specify the location of your website ensure you input correct format
(http://yoursite.co.uk)
5. User Name & Password LOGON will appear. input you logon details - ensure
it is the correct logon details supplied from web host for http NOT ALWAYS
THE SAME as ftp.
6. The Wizard will give your new shortcut a name. (You can change this if you
prefer)
7. The Wizard will create a shortcut to your account in "Computer",
8. Your sever folder will appear in your folder list on the left small pane
and a large
Network Icon will appear in the main right hand pane of “Computer†page,
this will become important later.
9. Close the "Computer" file. Go back to your Publisher web programme.
10. Open Web programme & create & save in normal way. Once happy to publish
11. Select Publish to web icon in top left menu bar or file Publish to web.
12. Vista will open "computer" listing all your normal folders.
13. Scroll UP to find “Computerâ€. This is important, Open this, you will see
your file list on the left (Do not use- Do not open any links they will
return an error.) and a network icon in the main screen – “Do nothing yetâ€
before you check you have the next few steps correct !!
14. In bottom menu bar you will see file name: / Save as type.
15. File name: index
16. Save as type: Web Page, Filtered.(If not there use drop down menu arrow
to select).
17. Now Save your site in to “Computer†only, It will produce index &
index_files.
18. If index.htm already exists. Do you want to replace it. ("YES").
19. Once you have saved you files to your computer & have both index &
index_files., Drag & Drop them into the network icon Only, you cannot save
into your file list for some reason, you can open & explore and add new files
etc, but cannot PUBLISH to web this way, Drag & Drop so far is the only way I
can get it to upload.
20. You will now see Saving as: http://yoursite.co.uk will appear, you may
be asked to replace certain files say “Yes to allâ€.
21. Once this disappears your upload is complete.
For future saves follow steps 11. to 21.

I have tried to save in a more direct way using the link from the file list,
but it returns, The folder that this Web page would use to organize
supporting files is already reserved for use in the current location, Please
choose different name or location for this web page.

David / Rob / Crash / Don / Spike you may be able to shed more light on this.

If someone would like to try this a let me know I would be grateful, I hope
I have helped in some way with the use of Vista / Publisher / Forms / http.

Please feel free to post as you wish if you think this method sound.

brelade,

Thanks for your efforts. I will have to test this out as soon as I make time
to install Vista on a test partition. I am procrastinating as I really have
no desire to run Vista at this point. Never the less, it will be interesting
to follow your instructions. Thanks again.
