https question

Please forgive me that this is not FP question but don't know where else to
post.

I was ordering from Internet site. I was down to the last page with the
credit card info. The site became a https site. However, I linked back to
see detailed information to double check items were right. The site became
the http. Then I went to the page again with the credit card info, but there
was no the https at the top. So I entered https????Where? for the credit
card number. It took it and generated an order confirmation and emailed it
to my email address. Other sites always caught me when I did not enter the
digits right--this took letters.

I called the business and gave the number over the phone. They assured me
that the site used encryption and VeriSign. But is this the way a site
should work?

Anyone could put graphics on a website to indicate encryption, etc. was
used.

Thanks for opinions!
Susan

No, that's not the way a web site should work.

If you want to check if the site is indeed using a valid SSL certificate, either click on the image
or the lock in the browser's status bar.
