HUGE Resource cleanup - Merge trick?

Hi all.

I've inherited a huge MSProject file to clean for upload into a time
tracking system.

The file has roughly 730 resources... While this may not seem big to you,
it's enormous to me. Of those resources, probably 250 are
duplicates/typos/and other manglings of resources that already exist in the
plan.

My question is simple: Is there an easy way to take a block of tasks
(listed by resource under RESOURCE USAGE) and quickly re-assign them to
another resource in the project?

Another way to state the problem might be to say is there a way to 'merge'
the assignments and information (no time entered, yet) for two similar
resource - Jim.A.Beam and James.A.Beam, for example?

Thanks, Bug Eyed

In the Gantt chart view you can filter for the resource in question, select
all the task displayed in the filtered view, and the use the Assign
Resources dialog box to replace to old resource with the new.

It sounds like you have the d*&%^d option "Automatically add new resources"
check box in the Tools, Options, menu General tab turned on. For the life
of me I'll never understand why that bloody thing is there - every typo or
slip you make when typing resource names into task assignments etc creates a
brand new bogus resource. I strongly suggest you make sure it's disabled
and stays disabled.

Steve,

Thanks so much for the quick and helpful reply. I appreciate it.

Exactly what I wanted to know. I knew I could edit them individually, but
the timesaver helps.

You are right and I've already turned it off! :) Thanks so much!
