hyperlink field code

In Word 2000 when I do a hyperlink, it does not come up with a line under it. Instead you see the word hyperlink and the address of file in parenthesis. If I highlight it, right click and go to toggle field code it will change. How can I change it so I don't have to do this each time. I want it to come up the correct way at first.
