Hi,

A client of mine is having issues when hyperlinking to documents that are not in the same directory as the Excel document they are working in.

When they link to a document on the same share but a different folder they get the error " Cannot open specified file." The path displayed by excel is correct though.

Can you only link to document in the same directory?

Thanks

Yeah, I was wondering the same Q too.
If we can't have the file reside in a different directory than the spreadsheet, that's a REAL shortcoming of Excel, if that's the case.

For some reason the conversation you're jumping in on isn't coming through
the NNTP servers so this is a guess at what you might be referring to...

The file you're hyperlinking to does not need to be in the same folder as
the Excel file containing the link. However, if it is not in that folder or
a folder subordinate to it you must enter the complete path to where the
file is located ‹ starting with file:// ‹ in order for the link to be
followed correctly. IOW, if you simply use the Insert> Hyperlink dialog to
navigate to & select the target that complete path doesn't get picked up.
