Hyperlink ScreenTips?

V

Victor Delta

I wonder if someone can point me in the right direction on this one please?
I'm sure it can't be impossible but so far the answer has alluded me!

I simply want to add a ScreenTip to some of the ordinary hyperlinks on my
website - i.e. so when one hovers the mouse pointer over a hyperlink a small
textbox is displayed (just the same as when one hovers over a hyperlink in
Word).

I use FrontPage 2000.

Thanks.

I can't remember if this feature is built into the hyperlink dialog box on FP 2000.

However it can be done using a title tag like this:

<a title="Open Google" href="http://www.google.com">Google</a>

Use the Title tag.
<a href="whatever" title="This is some explanation of the
link">linktext</a>

Thank you both for these suggestions. However, I've copied them in to the
HTML page of my website and they just appear as text! No screentips in
sight. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

We don't know. Maybe you could show what you did.

Hi Victor,

There is a built-in feature to set the Screen Tips for a hyperlink in Frontpage. You can do so by Insert->Hyperlink->ScreenTip.

Also, the following articles may help.

That feature does not exist in FP2000.

Re: Hyperlink ScreenTips? You could try wz_tooltips at
http://www.walterzorn.com

I like it, albeit with a couple of reservations
a.. 1. The size of the box doesn't adjust to the size of the text - you have to set it manually.
b.. 2. I haven't yet found a way to customize tooltips so that I can call them in one function call rather than by
1) a statement to set the size and
2) a statement (or function call) one to set the text.
These apart, it is great.

Many thanks. I don't think FP2000 has this built-in feature (at least, mine
doesn't have it!). However, the MS articles have sorted me out and I have
now created the ScreenTip I wanted using the Title element.

Thanks to all the others who suggested this too - I was just doing it wrong
to start with (I needed to create the hyperlink first)!

Thanks again

FP2000 doesn't have that feature.
